Toilet Talkers & the Breakdown of Polite Society
Once we’ve heard something, we can’t “unhear” it!
Oftentimes when I am out at a shopping mall, or it’s intermission at a play, or in a movie theater and I am in the ladies restroom, I hear women in the stalls talking on the telephone! I mean right out loud. I don’t understand this breakdown in personal hygiene etiquette.
First of all, ladies rooms are echoey by their very nature. They are made out of tile and metal doors and sound bounces all over the place. When I say sound, I think you know what I’m referring to. Because when utilizing a restroom, certain sounds occur. It’s just the nature of nature. And so it’s very perplexing to me why even when using the ladies facility, these gals feel the need to be on the telephone. Oftentimes they even put the call on speaker! Which means the person on the other end isn’t just hearing what’s going on with the person calling them. They can hear what’s “going” on with everyone else too.
Is this really necessary? It seems to me the only phone call that would have to be made while one is using the restroom is if you are having a heart-attack and need to call 9–1–1.
Other than that, to just gab about the two-for-one sale or the cute skirt you saw that might fit them, that you are thinking of picking up…can’t that…
