Love In the Age of Coronavirus

Just how I’ve never lived through dating at middle-age before, this is my first pandemic. It’s interesting how you find out who you may be in a relationship with and who you are very mistaken about, when it feels like the world is ending.

It’s said that true love stands the test of time. Unfortunately, the one I thought was my Current Love, does not stand the test of Coronavirus Time . When things were getting pretty dicey at the end of last week, I sent a text to Current Love, wondering if I should head his way. I live alone and about one hundred miles from him and the realization that if I got sick there was no one to help me at all started to hit.

I’m sure I’m not the only single person out there with this concern. There’s not enough toilet paper rolls in the world to give me the kind of peace of mind needed if I am in need of care, or food, or who knows what? It’s a pandemic for gosh sakes. Much like Love and how long it may last, no one knows anything really.

I could be in a relationship with Coronavirus for fourteen days or six months. It’s really all in Coronavirus’ hands so to speak. I am at it’s mercy. But Current Love, well that’s another story. I don’t have to be at his mercy, because obviously, he doesn’t have any. Do I need to be in a mid-life relationship with someone who’s mercy I willingly put myself at? No, I do not.
